Najat Bhiry is Professor at the Department of Geography and researcher at Centre d’études Nordiques, Université Laval (Centre of Northern Studies: www.cen.ulaval.ca). She has been Director of this interdisciplinary research centre from 2012 to 2018. Her research focuses on the impact of past and current climate on frozen peatlands, lakes and rivers as well as on relationships between human and their environments in Nunavik, Nunatsiavut and in Iceland. In collaboration with European and Canadian researchers, she is working closely with northern communities and organisations of Nunavik and Nunatsiavut on the diverse ecosystems of these regions and their sensitivity and value as observing sites for global change.
